College days were the best days of our lives. The fun we had with our friends, the last-minute submissions, the college time romance, the never-ending bunks, and canteen breaks are something which we can never get over with. As we entered the threshold of adulthood, we lost the fun element we had in us somewhere, and each time we see a group of friends enjoying their best days of lives, we all just get teleported to our golden days of college. If given a chance, who wouldn’t want to relive them? Probably this is the reason we all resonate with the shows and films showcasing college life and their impromptu adventures.
Well, to begin with, the trailer of Hostel Daze was recently released and fans are waiting for the release of the show. Season 1 saw freshers exploring their newfound freedom in college and dealing with the shenanigans of the seniors. If you have stayed in a hostel, you know the drill – the ragging, the long conversations, the fights, the thefts, and a lot of unimaginable things which make us question our own intentions! Hostel Daze will refresh these memories and you want to get back into your messy rooms with your roommates for one more time.
Season 1 was well received by the audience and the crisp, observant and immensely entertaining show won hearts. Young star cast like Ahsaas Channa, Adarsh Gaurav, Nikhil Vijay, and Ranjan Raj made sure that they connect the right chords.
Now the tables have turned. The juniors have turned into seniors and it’s their turn to boss around now! It will be fun to see what these seniors are going to do this season. So, before season 2 releases tomorrow, here we have a list of other shows to watch that will take you down memory lane. These shows will awaken the teenager in you and you will long to set your foot on the college campus as soon as you start watching these shows. Also, be ready to laugh your heart out. Some incidents from the series will be relatable and some will just refresh your memories.
So, let’s begin… (Be ready to shed a happy tear)
1. College Romance
College life is incomplete if we haven’t fallen in love at least once during our college time. Staying true to the title of the series, college is the epitome of epic quick love stories that made a crash landing even faster than it took off. College Romance shows us how the students tend to get attracted to someone quickly, have a crush, fall in love, date each other, and then have a heart-wrenching split. Though these things are depicted in the most light-hearted way, you will feel a connection and it will strike every memory you had of your college love. So, if you want to feel butterflies in your stomach all over again and have a hearty laugh, College Romance is something you MUST watch. Youth sensations like Gagan Arora, Shreya Mehta, Apoorva Arora, Hira Ashar, Keshav Sadhna, and Manjot Singh add a touch of reality to the series. While Season 1 is still my personal favorite, season 2 is an equally convincing light-hearted comedy.
2. Kota Factory
The Kota factory is definitely a breath of fresh air. The premise is gloomy, but I guess that is the reality and this is exactly what the makers were trying to convey. As soon as you hear the word Kota, the first thing that comes to our mind is IIT coaching institutes. This series is the story of a few such students who aim to get into IIT and land in Kota, a city that churns out the best JEE toppers. This is only the first black and white series of India and it captures every emotion. The struggles, the failures, the parting away of friends, falling in love, and above all the race that these kids are running. This series is a masterpiece in itself and it depicts the monotonous life that a student faces in day-to-day life.
3. Girls Hostel
Girls Hostel revolves around the motto ‘Why Can’t Girls Have All The Fun?’ Hailing from different backgrounds, four girls enter SVM college. Some turn into best of friends, while others into enemies. College politics takes the centre stage and the battle just gets intense between the dental college students and the medical college students. While the first season focuses majorly on the conflict that occurs within the hostel premises, the second season focuses on the college elections. It gets intense, but not without a pinch of college romance, fun, and frolic. The series boasts of great performances by Shrishti Shrivastava, Shreya Mehta, Parul Gulati, Ahsaas Channa, and Simran Natekar. Trupti Khamkar and Khusbhu Baid bring in much-needed comic relief to the series. So girls, if you want to relive your college and hostel days, do binge on Girls Hostel. The writing and execution are so strong that you won’t feel lost even for a second.
4. Lakhon Mein Ek
Created by the ace comedian, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Lakhon Mein EK tells the story of a child who is suffocated by the dreams of his parents. Director Abhishek Sengupta makes sure that the series keeps the audience glued and hence builds up the frustration and stress in such a way, that when the protagonist played by Ritvik Sahore breaks after a point, we all relate to it. Aakash Gupta (Ritvik Sahore) loves to make comic videos, but unfortunately, he is forced to do what most parents want their kids to do. Trying to fit into the different circles, Aakash finds out that he is a complete misfit everywhere since this isn’t something that he wants to do. Will he break free? What happens to him in the end? To know these answers, do watch the series.
5. Engineering Girls
Timeliners have a knack for college series. They strike the perfect chord with the audience. Engineering Girls is the story of Teja, Maggu, and Sabu, the three feisty girls who navigate their lives and dreams in engineering college. Featuring three of the most popular young online talents, Barkha Singh, Sejal Kumar, and Kritika Avasthi, the show is a fresh take on the lives of an engineering college. While the majority of the engineering stories are depicted through the eyes of boys, this one gives you a fresh perspective. In five episodes, these women show that they want to leave a mark in the world, start a new company, and fall in love. Don’t forget the unending practical files and assignments they have to submit while they do all these. If you are in a mood to watch something light, go for Engineering girls – short and simple story.
6. Operation MBBS
I am sure everyone remembers Dr Juhi, Dr Omi, Dr Simran and Dr Rahul from the first Indian medical drama Sanjivani: A Medical Boon. This show had glued every teenager to the TV screens. We all loved that show and when that ended it felt like a part of us was ending. Then years later Dice Media came up with yet another medical drama, but this time featuring the college life of the medical students grappling with practicals and regular attendance while trying to have a hang of college life. Operation MBBS captures the true essence of a medical college. The show showcases the story of three first-year MBBS students, Nishant (Ayush Mehra), Sakshi (Anshul Chauhan), and Huma (Sarah Hashmi), who hail from different backgrounds. The lead characters do justice to the role and add a pinch of mischief, ambition, and anxiety in their performance.
So this coming weekend, refresh your memory with the good old college day mischiefs, fun, and love!
