6 Short Shows That You Can Watch Before 2020 Is Over

While we cannot wait for 2020 to be over (thanks, corona!), it also means the added anxiety of not finishing shows as they go on for seasons after seasons. 1. Fleabag

When in doubt, watch Phoebe Waller-Bridge! Fleabag is Waller-Bridge’s baby that earned numerous Emmy awards, and a spot in every binge watcher list with its tragicomedy and brilliant writing. Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays the titular character Fleabag, who is grappling while coming to terms with the death of her best friend. Season 2 introduces a man dubbed ‘The Hot Priest’ (we are not sorry), where Andrew Scott makes us swoon as he plays Fleabag’s romantic interest. Shockingly funny yet heartbreaking realistic, Fleabag is a must watch.

2. Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai

An Indian cult classic, Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai gained instant popularity when it was televised. It was rebooted for a second season, but nothing steals the charms from its iconic first. The story follows an upper-class Gujarati family living in South Mumbai, where the matriarch’s insistence on maintaining the lavish lifestyle and etiquettes of the ‘upper class’ is shattered by the storm that is her ‘middle class’ daughter-in-law.

With noted actors like Ratna Shah Pathak, Satish Shah and Sumeet Raghavan, the impeccable comic timing and the hilarious script made the show an instant hit.

3. The Punisher

Forget heroes and villains, anti-heroes are where all the fun is! In Marvel’s The Punisher, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) is all about revenge for the murder of his family. The show holds back no punches, portraying violence in all its glory while giving issues like morality and PTSD their due. If unabashed violence and morally grey characters are your things, look no further than this show.

4. Normal People

Based on Sally Rooney’s acclaimed eponymous novel, the show follows the lives of Marianne Sheridan (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell Waldron (Paul Mescal), as they navigate love, life and everything in between. If realistic love stories make your heart sing, please, please, give this show a try.

5. Little Things

Kavya (Mithila Palkar) and Dhruv (Dhruv Sehgal) star in a love story that has captured the hearts of millions of Indians. A couple living together in Mumbai, Little Things conveys the importance of the smallest things in the relationship, and how to navigate relationships in the millennial world.

6. A Suitable Boy

This TV show version of Vikram Seth’s acclaimed novel stars Tabu, Ishaan Khatter, Namit Das, and Tanya Maniktala, and is a story of a mother’s search to find a husband for her daughter, set amid the backdrop of the Partition of India. Brilliant cinematography and story are what steal the show, and Tabu is always an honour to watch!
