10 Times Netflix’s Little Things Summed Up Long Distance Under Lockdown

Lockdown 5.0 is the eased up version of Lockdown 4.0, and everybody thinks they can waltz around the streets without masks and make out at the beach. Well, guess what? Covid is at an all time high, and is yet about to peak in India. It’s a grim truth, but you can’t really meet your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner just yet, simply because you miss them (read: you’re horny). Long distance is hard, but it’s also imperative. Everybody has to do it.

Just like Kavya and Dhruv, everybody’s favourite couple from Little Things. They’re so relatable, absolutely 21st century, and had to go through long distance too. If they can do it, so can we.

Dear dhruv and kavya, Little things was never a show for me, it was always a feeling a feeling of love, care and friendship. I watched the show when my boyfriend forced me to, i am not much of a series type of girl, he forced me and we watched it together, when ever we used to meet in 6months or 1 year we watch the show. It was our thing. And i fell in love with you even more because of these cute fights you and dhruv, we relate to them so much. We send each other the little things post and we are like loookkk this is so us and thats what made me fall in love with you, you were like couple goals for me. And when in season 3 when dhruv went away i could feel the pain, the long-distance it is the worst kind of pain, the not matching of the timings and everything else. You made it work and so did we. We didnt last so much longer but the friendship we had like the biryani monster and momo is still intact , i am still his motu and him my idiot. You guys taught how much communication is important and how it can solve anything and you need to have that you can share everything type of friendship with the person you love because love might fade but friendship stays forever, and its important to be best friends first. For I also, am a Nagpuri girl who fell in love with this chola bhatura loving North Indian guy. . Dear dhruv, Let’s start with how like everyone else I wish to have a partner like you everytime I see you and Kavya together. Because you are not one of those typical too good to be true boyfriends. You are irritating, you say wrong things at the wrong time. You don’t always nod at what Kavya has to say. But at the end of the day, love thrives. Isn’t that all we need in a world which lacks empathy? A little love to go back to when our shoulders can no longer carry the burden of life. I don’t want to mention all the things where I fell in love with you because there are too many. But the day when you made omelette for Kavya’s friends despite of the fact that you were not in a good mood and existential crisis was hitting you hard, I fell in love with you. The day when Kavya missed you and cried like a baby and you asked her if she wants you to come back for her, I fell in love with you. The day you took her back to the vineyard to talk about whether you guys are falling apart and to fix it, I fell in love with you. When you told her to go to Nagpur to see her dying dog for you one last time, I fell in love with you. Throughout the years, I’ve seen you and Kavya grow together. When by the end of season three you both decided to move to different cities, it made me happy. Because it is so amazing to have so much faith in each other to let them just be and yet not falling out of love. The reality of the world is too harsh to not break your heart. Yet, I’m just happy that you and Kavya make me realize that no matter how ambiguous is sounds, it’s always okay to dream about unicorn and roses. Dear Dhruv and Kavya, Little Things to me is way more than a web series. It didn’t have suspense, action and extraordinary backdrop to grip me and keep me waiting for the episode/season. What kept me holding and waiting was your ‘realness’, the relatibilty, the experiences, the mushiness, the realistic arguments. You told me just like other relations, life happens to love too. There will be days when we’ll be idly chilly on our sofa, munching potato chips and soon their will be days asking for compromises, introspection, giving your partner ‘the space’ to grow. And when you cover these phases, that’s when you know they are your full-stop. Opposites attract was just a myth before I met you two. Momo says Panda and you, Dhruv say Paaanda. You two regardless of all the difference of opinions towards people, success and life stand together with each other. Kavya in the last episode, says how she loves that you both have stayed in love, keeping your originality intact, you haven’t changed for the sake of love and that, you two do have life and people to care for beyond this comfy bubble of happiness and love. That’s what I loved and made me stick to it now and always. Thankyou, for taking us through all the phases of being in love. To dhruv and kavya, To me little things is just so much more than just a web series. Even a single episode can change the way we think about ourselves, or the ones whom we love. Love is indeed, all about the little moments. Thank you for teaching love is not just about loving someone when it is easy for us. There maybe hard days. The moment where momo did anything in his power to make his biryani monster smile, and at the same time courageous enough to fight and later sort it all out. The moment where Kavya tells Dhruv that it’s important to talk about the uncomfortable things. How you both calmed down after every fight and had the real talk. You both were not the best couple, but you were perfect with your imperfections. You fought, argued, and despite of being madly in love, you both too at some point had the dilemma if you both are actually made for each other. With Kavya helping Dhruv with his loans, and Dhruv cuddling or snuggling her even when she was sick, you both never failed to make each other feel good. You both always helped the other one grow. You both are just so much more than just a romantic couple, you two have been the best friends. How Kavya felt when she couldn’t make her Momo happy because the mutton cutlet had spoiled, tells us how not every thing we plan can turn out to be perfect, but, our efforts do count. And finally, how it’s important to respect each others opinion, value their emotions, their family, giving them space, being mature enough to talk things out rather than holding grudges, how sometimes even after an intimate moment, a heated argument can follow. We have seen, Dhruv and Kavya, As together always. Seeing them, As a distant couple, Fighting, Loving, Crying, Missing, Made us know, That in dark times, Little things are the things that matter. Unread messages, Declined phone calls. We parted just because to grow stronger. The distance keeping us together but something you see is missing. I am missing. I think I miss you alot. May be more than just alot. You spark bright, And get drooled with friends. Surely the new one. But here, I got none. Because I ignored them for us. Now even they have evolved, To not ask twice. So now I fear to say no to them. I join them, Even if I don’t want to. Because, getting back home early from the office, And not finding you Feels miserable. See, How priorities change!
