If this terrible pandemic had occurred even five years ago, the movie business would have looked much bleaker than it is today. The Indian film industry accounts for a major portion of India’s whole GDP, and happiness quotient too. It’s no lie that we love films, we love being entertained, and especially when the world around is is crashing and burning, we look to our favourite stars to make us smile.
Well, they are definitely going to continue making us smile, and cry, and laugh, and dance. Because movies today can be released from anywhere and watched anywhere; that’s the beauty of the online world.

Premiering on 22 May 2020, on Zee5, Ghoomketu is a 2020 Hindi comedy-drama movie starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anurag Kashyap, Ragini Khanna, Richa Chadha, and Raghuvir Yadav. Ghoomketu. It explores the story of a passionate writer who arrives in Mumbai to become a famous scriptwriter in Bollywood.
Premiering on 12 June 2020, on Amazon Prime Video, Gulabo Sitabo is rumoured to be a quirky comedy, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurrana and directed by Shoojit Sircar. We’re so pumped for this “Ek Priceless Jodi”!
Premiering soon on Amazon Prime Video, Shakuntala Devi revolves around the indomitable, witty and capricious spirit of the child prodigy, the Human Computer, Shakuntala Devi. An inspiring true story of a woman who lived life on her own terms and conquered the world through her numbers, this movie is a multi-starrer: Vidya Balan, Sanya Malhotra, Jisshu Sengupta, among others.
Premiering on 19 June 2020, Penguin is a female-centric film starring Keerthy Suresh, directed by Eashvar Kartic, with music composed by our favourite, Santhosh Narayanan. We’re super pumped to watch this in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam!
Premiering on 29 May 2020, on Amazon Prime Video, Ponmaghal Vandhal is a Tamil-language legal drama film written and directed by J. J. Fredrick in his debut, and produced by Suriya. The film stars Jyothika as the lead, and from the looks of it, it’s going to be one intense courtroom drama.
Premiering on 26 June 2020, on Amazon Prime Video, Law is a Kannada-language film that is to debut Ragini Chandran. It’s supposed to be an exciting, woman-centric legal drama, co-starring Siri Prahlad and veteran actor Mukhyamantri Chandru. Law is written and directed by Raghu Samarth.
Premiering on 24 July 2020, on Amazon Prime Video, French Biryani is a Kannada-language film starring the former RJ and stand-up comic Danish Sait’s second movie after Humble Politician Nograj. He plays an auto-rickshaw driver from Shivajinagar in Bengaluru. And it is worth noting that one of the voice characters was created by Danish like Nograj to prank his listeners during his RJ days.
Premiering on Amazon Prime Video (date tbd), Sufiyum Sujatayum is the first Malayalam-language film to have its first release on an OTT platform. Starring Jayasurya in the lead, the film also has Aditi Rao Hydari as the female lead. Written and directed by Naranipuzha Shanavas, the movie is described as a “beautiful love story.” Can’t wait!
